Record truffle will be buried at home

First it was planned to bury the truffle in the garden of chief cook of the restaurant that bought it.

The most expensive truffle in the world bought at an auction for more than 50 thousand dollars is returning to Italy uneaten.

The record truffle was found last month by a specially trained dog in the mountains close to Pisa. It was sold during an international charity TV auction with the participation of rich men of London, Los Angeles, New York and Florence. Finally the truffle was auctioned off for a record high price. Later it was delivered to London and exhibited as a museum showpiece for public observation in the restaurant that bought it.

This white truffle weighs 850 grams. It is an underground mushroom of an extremely rare kind, which is a delicacy loved by gourmets. This time of the year it can be found in many regions of Italy.

For a whole week Enzo Cassini - manager of the restaurant - refused to cut it, taking into account the huge interest of the public to the truffle that has beaten all records.

As one might expect, the fatal thing happened. The most expensive in the world truffle started to spoil. Finally it got rotten and became uneatable. When Florence mushroom experts have heard about the plight of their most precious truffle, they asked to return it and arranged an official ceremony of farewell.

They decided to bury it, with the hope that next year the rotten mushroom will give birth to a new monster truffle.
